Lifestlye Greed and Fear

As the global economic crisis unfolded during 2008, world leaders and social commentators reflected on what had caused this unprecedented financial disaster. There were discussions about the architects of the sub-prime mortgages, who were driven by greed and a lack of regulation.

As time passed, people discussed the need for greater regulation in both lending institutions and greater constraints on stock brokers. Those companies giving mortgages were told to tighten their policies and short selling was banned for some time on the Australian Stock Exchange.

Yet in the middle of all this discussion, the governor of the Australian Reserve Bank made a comment that all governments must keep in mind. He said:

"The cycle of greed and fear cannot be regulated away."

Greed and fear are human nature. They need to be moderated, but they will never be controlled completely. The only way to rid our community of greed and fear is a change of heart, not a change in regulations. Only God can do that.
